A Ugandan soldier has killed seven people, including three children, in a shooting spree at a military police barracks in Kampala, a military spokesman said.

Sergeant Isaac Obua, was then shot dead himself.

Military police spokesman Maj Edward Birungi said Sergeant Obua had had a dispute with his wife.

He is reported to have got drunk and then started shooting while searching for his wife, who managed to escape.

As well as the three children, the Sergeant killed a female soldier and three soldiers’ wives. Two others are said to be injured during the shooting at Makindye barracks in the south of Kampala.

Sergeant Isaac Obua “has just gone bonkers” and was himself killed, military spokesman Paddy Ankunda said in a Twitter post. He then tweeted: “We are all mourning.”

In April 2014, a soldier in the western Ugandan district of Ntoroko killed 10 people, including five military colleagues, then shot himself, after quarrelling over a woman in a bar, local media reported.
