Assaults on several army barracks in Burundi

By on December 11, 2015

Heavily armed attackers have launched co-ordinated assaults friday on several army barracks in Bujumbura.
At least seven people, including some attackers, have reportedly been killed.
Heavy gunfire and blasts erupted early on Friday and shots were still heard across the capital Bujumbura long after daybreak. Residents said the streets were empty at a time when people are normally heading to work. Police were out in force.
The attacks are the first on military targets since the last coup attempt.
A presidential adviser said that government opponents had been trying to create a diversion to free prisoners with the attacks, but had failed.
