Mauritius inflation falls to 4.3 pct in October: stats office

Mauritius’ annual average inflation rate fell for the tenth straight month to 4.3 percent in October, from 4.4 percent in September, the statistics office said on Tuesday.
The consumer price index rose to 133.6 in October from 133.3 a month earlier, sending the year-on-year inflation rate to 4.2 percent from 3.9 percent in September, according to Thomson Reuters calculations.
Transport and health costs rose 0.6 percent during the month while food and non-alcoholic drink prices rose 0.3 percent.
“On both inflation measures we are still very far from the 6.5 percent rate of December 2011 which means that the central bank has still much room to manoeuvre on the monetary policy front,” Renganaden Padayachy, economist at the Chamber of Commerce, told Reuters.
The central bank kept its repo rate on hold at 4.9 percent in September.
