Air Zimbabwe grounded

By on March 1, 2012

The national airline of Zimbabwe has suspended its flights until further notice as the latest recovery efforts failed this week.

Air Zimbabwe chief executive, Innocent Mavhunga, announced “I can confirm all flights are suspended. We are grounded indefinitely.”

The pilots of the airline left work last year, claiming their wages were not yet paid. However, the airline was aiming to return to the skies this week but was unable to reach a solution.

Mavhuga continued by saying “Pilots did not come to commence operations. We are waiting for the government which is our major shareholder to intervene. Our issue is in the domain of cabinet. We are just waiting for their intervention.”

The last years have been troublesome for the airline with striking pilots and rising debts.
