African Union to suspend Niger: AU source

The African Union will condemn and suspend the west African country of Niger after troops ousted President Mamadou Tandja, a senior AU source said on Friday.

Asked what the AU’s Peace and Security Council would do with Niger following Thursday’s military coup, the AU official said: “Condemnation and suspension.” The council is due to make a statement on Niger later on Friday.
